Sunburst - March Update

Did you know that on March 2nd the sun will set at 6pm? It's true! Spring won't officially be here until the 20th but, if you look around outside you are sure to see crocus and daffodils popping up and trees starting to bud out. Hooray! 🌞

It's also true that in March we often get a "false Spring." Beautiful weather that we are SO ready for - but it just doesn't last. I actually had a wise neighbor tell me years ago that I really need to wait until after Mother's Day to start planting. Ugh, that's so far away! It's this time of year I start really itching to dig in the dirt and start gardening. But I can't safely plant this early, so I have a million plant clippings rooting on my windowsills. If you are in need or want of houseplants, hit reply. I have some for you!!

As always, I’ve packed this email with local finds and seasonal highlights to help you make the most of March. My goal? To create a newsletter you actually look forward to opening each month!

A few snapshots from last month 📸

❄️ Snowy days called for puzzles and tea at our place. Plus playing in the snow - Colin was out all day, both days we had the white stuff. Day 2 was perfect for snowballs, don't you think?

🪩 Portland Winter Light Festival was as fabulous as I expected. We saw so many wonderful displays, fire dancers, a fire-breathing dragon, and Portland being the hip and art-filled city that it is!

🎶 A friend and I went to see Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats live this last month. Gosh, he's so fabulous. Truly a wonderful show!

♥️ Love is all around, if you open your eyes.

🍰 We celebrated Dylan's birthday at the end of Feb. A day on the town just exploring and bumbling, a Pink Floyd laser light show at OMSI, and dessert at Papa Hayden's to finish it off!

PDX Metro Market Update

More new listings and more sales. Spring is starting to...um...spring!
Why median days on market, you ask? Why not average? Because that average (77 days) is pretty thrown off by some properties that sat for a loooooooong time before selling. Median just means the middle. It's not as math-y as it seems.

Monthly reminder: these stats are for all of the Portland Metro Area. Specific areas vary quite a lot. Additionally, there is variation in stats between condos/townhomes and single family homes. I'm happy to drill down on more specific information for your search!

✅ Check for exterior damage after storms. This could be siding, roofing, or leaf/vegetation debris that is blocking water flow.

✅ Inspect the caulking and repair any that was battered during the winter.

✅ Empty the fridge and wipe down all the shelves. Defrost the freezer and toss any freezer-burned food.

✅ Get your A/C serviced to ensure it is ready to go for hot summer months.

✅ Plant a tree! Spring and Fall are the best times for newbies to get established.

The Monthly Edit

What I'm...

📖 : I am almost done with The Memory Librarian and other Stories of Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe. I listened to her Dirty Computer album quite a bit when she first released it. This writing brought new richness to the album for me. It's dystopian and futuristic and a reflection on the place of art and artists in society. All forms of art. And, thus...

👂 Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe has been on repeat for me this month. It is SO good. I was also playing a lot of Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats - jamming in prep for the concert this past month. And, I see that Caamp has a new album out! As of this writing I have not listened to it but that will be changing in the next few hours!

🎲 : Part of our birthday celebration for Dylan included some hangout time at Mox Boarding House for some snacks and game play. We checked Betrayal at House on the Hill out from their library and really enjoyed it. It's a game in two parts, really. The first part is cooperative and then in the second half one of your team betrays you. As we played, 2 different folks came up and shared how much they love the game. One even shared that in upwards of 20 times playing no two games had been the same!

Why do I love where I live?

Here are just some happenings I am looking forward to this month:

🍀 Portland Shamrock Run

March 16th, 8am - 1pm
