Recently, I attended a Windermere luxury breakfast where the conversation centered around the evolving role of AI and some of the risks that come with it. It was a good reminder that while these tools are incredibly useful, they also require a level of awareness in how they’re used day to day.

One key takeaway was the difference in protections between free and paid AI platforms, such as ChatGPT or Claude. Many free versions do not offer the same level of privacy or data protection, which raises an important question: do you know where your information is going?

It also highlighted how important it is to be mindful of what you upload. Using AI to review or summarize personal documents, such as tax forms or financial information, can unintentionally expose sensitive details like social security numbers or account data.

As AI continues to evolve, a little extra caution goes a long way:

• Be mindful of the type of information you share or upload
• Avoid inputting sensitive or personal documents into free platforms
• Consider using tools that allow you to control or limit how your data is used
