Home insurance is one of those things you hope you never need, but it’s incredibly important to have in place. A few quick reminders I have found to be helpful. Take a video of your home This is an easy step that can make a big difference. Take five minutes to walk through your home with your phone and take a video, opening closets, cabinets, and storage areas. If you ever need to file a claim from a break in or fire, having a video helps document what’s there and what may be missing. Compare rates from time to time
Insurance rates can increase over the years without much notice. Even if you are happy with your current provider, it never hurts to compare options, especially if your premium has gone up or you’ve made updates to your home. Review your coverage
With rising building costs and home improvements, it’s worth checking that your coverage still reflects your home today. Make sure the Homeowners insurance covers smoke damage, as some companies don't include that in their coverage.
