Mortgage rates moved in a positive direction last week, dropping to their lowest levels in nearly three years. A surprise announcement involving increased mortgage-backed securities purchases helped push rates down to levels not seen since early 2023. While some volatility remains and rates may fluctuate short-term, overall borrowing costs are meaningfully lower than they were just weeks ago. As the market settles, buyers and sellers alike are keeping a close eye on how this shift could impact affordability and activity moving forward.
