Even the Birds Are RelocatingTurns out we're not the only ones on the move this fall — BirdCast estimates 751,700 birds migrated over King County in a single night last week. Proof that September in the Pacific Northwest is peak season for relocating, whether you have wings or a moving truck.

A Seattle Original: The Gas StationWhat every day roadside stop made its American debut in Seattle?
The gas station. In the spring of 1907, Standard Oil's John McLean rigged a 30-gallon tank with a glass gauge and a hose at Holgate Street and Western Avenue — and pumped gasoline straight into cars for the first time. Before that, drivers hauled gas home in five-gallon cans from the general store. St. Louis and Pittsburgh dispute the title, but Seattle has the receipts: a 1947 marker still stands near East Marginal Way South, just south of the SR 99 tunnel. Go find it.
